Updated Mondays and Fridays

Some Announcements and a Thor Review

Let’s just start things off with a few announcements.

-First, I’ve decided to post the main comics on Monday and Friday. On Wednesday, I will post what I like to call “TrulyEpic Sketchies.” (name is a work in progress) These will be smaller black and white….REALLY simply done mini-comics.

-Second, Look for some tasty video content coming soon. I plan on releasing these in small increments during the summer. This is going to be a learning process for me, so it will be slow start. I am really excited on what I’ve got planned, and once I have the hang of it I will make regular video posts once a week starting sometime around the fall.

Cool….anyway

Summertime is almost upon us, and for a movie buff like me…that’s when the awesome movies come out. It started this past Friday with the release of “Thor.” I was a comic book nerd when I was a kid, so I do know a little bit about the source material, and to be honest I really wasn’t expecting this movie to really be much. It’s kind of hard to translate Old Norse gods/super advanced interdimensional aliens in to a movie and still have it tied into “Ironman,” “The Incredible Hulk” and the new Captain America movie coming out in July. Those films are loosely based on science…very loosely. It seems to be a bit of a stretch to incorporate Thor with these.

I have to admit, they did a great job.

They managed to script a good story, combined with decent casting and acting, and incredible visuals to make a pretty good summer movie. I have a few complaints but overall I liked it.

Let’s start off with the visuals. Asgard was breathtaking…really…it was awesome. I want to go there. While the realm of the Frost Giants (which name eludes me at the moment) was great in its concept of a dark and cold place, the real work went into creating Asgard and its people. My hats off to the concept artists behind “Thor.”

The acting was good. Chris Hemsworth portrayed Thor’s arrogant ass and made it believable. Tom Hiddleston was spot on as Loki. I’m not too familiar with him, but he got the look of Loki while portraying a believable, almost sympathetic villain. The comic book Loki has more in common withThe Monarch” from Venture Brothers and I’m glad he steered away from that. Anthony Hopkins as Odin was so damn good I think they went out of their way to put him asleep in the middle of the film, so he didn’t steal everyone’s thunder. Even Idris Elba’s Heimdall was good.

My only real complaint was that the movie slowed down alot once Thor got the boot out of Asgard. Natalie Portman didn’t really help things out either. Her acting was mediocre…especially for someone who just got an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She kind of seemed more like a school girl with a crush than a P.H.D. in Astrophysics who fell in love. It’s a small complaint, and it doesn’t really take anything away from the movie.
I really don’t have a rating system for movies, not yet at least. I would have to suggest going to see it in theaters. It’s a fun movie and a good way to start the summer.

New Years Revelation

New Years resolutions  are weird concepts, not really the resolution part, but the waiting for a new year to happen part. I’ve always felt that if you need a change in your life, you shouldn’t wait for the beginning of a year to make it happen.

It really doesn’t matter what changes need to be made, big or small. The second you finally think to yourself “Whatever this is that I’m doing, this just doesn’t work for me anymore.” That’s the moment you need to start changing your life.

I’m reminded of a quote from one Rayne Summers, “Nothing in life is given to you by the act of sitting on your ass and thinking pretty thoughts. You want something in life? Then you go and take it.”

Don’t wait for a new year, a new month, or even a new day. Go out there and make the changes that need to be made…RIGHT NOW!

Of course this is just the ramblings of an inspiring artist who needs to take his own advice…so I think I’ll be joining you.
